DND has a staff of approximately 400 purchasers supporting the annual acquisition of over $1.5 Billion in equipment and $2 Billion in services.

Members of the Purchasing Group at DND are civilian employees of the government of Canada (non-uniformed personnel) who support the Canadian Forces by:

• Managing the purchase of new equipment or services
• Ensuring that purchases provide the best value for taxpayers’ money
• Developing Defence procurement strategies and plans
• Evaluating bids and participating in contract negotiations
• Managing procurement budgets and cash flow
• Managing the Defence Supply Chain
